Match Experience
There is huge regional bias in especially the mid west. This process is not completely about Step 1 scores and I believe has little to do with where you go to school as long as you go to an MD school in the US. Look at my stats if you don't believe me. My step 1 is low (212) and even before anyone knew of my high step 2 score (234), I had about 7 interviews and I don't go to a big name medical school powerhouse. Believe it or not, a lot of programs actually look at the entire applications. That being said, I have a pretty interesting history and life experiences which I think helped me a lot.
