Interview Experiences Mostly relaxed, very professional. Some interviews relaxed, others very hard hitting questions. Got turned off by the PD and another faculty interviewer who seemed too 'intense' to work with. Good dinner night before with residents. Average interview day, tour includes St. Luke's, county hospital, and children's hospital. My first interview. I didn't know what to expect. It was okay. a 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17
Program Advantages Fantastic Children's Mercy hospital. There separate hospitals - good variety - academic, children's, urban/trauma, great research opportunities and support from program, good financial perks for food/presentations/call/etc. Education. Curriculum. Many call it a 'hidden gem.' Fellowships obtained by graduates. Volume in almost every department. Seems to be rising program, more research as of late. Kansas City is nice. You get great clinical training here to read high volumes. a 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17
Program Disadvantages Two different PACS, one location using transcription service. Commute could be longish to one facility or another. Although they have a good curriculum when you start, I think it will come back to bite you in the end because when you finish your Exam of the Future PGY4, you will have little/no elective opportunities PGY5 and likely be abused for your work instead of t Rotate at multiple hospitals. PD made me odd comment, saying I wouldn't rank them highly - she was right. Put off by one of my interviewers saying that I didn't REALLY want to do academics. Another interviewer told me that residents shouldn't be involved in research. Direct conflict with my goals. a 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17
