Interview Experiences
ranked it first after interview, although i hadn't planned to even after rotating there (not in radiology) as a med student
very relaxed
Well organized. Opportunity to talk with residents. 3 interviews with faculty members
Laid back.
Conversational and friendly. Good noon conference. Ok lunch.
Chat with three faculty members including PD.
Fantastic hospital, very well-maintained. Interviews with PD and two faculty.

Program Advantages
resident happiness, volume, fellowships, hospital facilities, moonlighting, favorable call schedule, good in-house didactics and great visiting lecturers, research opportunities
beautiful hospital, great mix of academics and private practice
Swanky hospital in Royal Oak, a very safe city. New equipment. Ergonomic desks and chairs.
Cush environment Good volume of cases
Nice large community hospital with a blend of private practice and academic atmosphere; Reputation is improving every year and fairly well-known in midwest area for training
Residents were extremely happy with great opportunities to moonlight. Hospital is beautiful.
Education. Solid moonlighting opportunities. One of the only MSK-accredited fellowships. IR volume. Benefits.
Lots of residents with tons of cases means less call but more than enough volume. Great hospital in the suburbs with cheap cost of living, low crime, and decent houses within walking distrance of hospital.
Nice hospital system.
Residents are probably the happiest group I met on the interview trail. Fun awards are given for interesting resident case presentations. Got a great vibe here.

Program Disadvantages
not a big name university program
1 hospital only
Moonlighting only pays $35 a hour. Irregardless of spin, it seems moonlighting is only available to seniors(R3-R4) with little trickle down.
Royal Oak, although I have heard nice things about its area, is still a suburb of Detroit! See HFH above comments about Detriot.
Royal oak Michigan is not a happening place.
The economy has hit Royal Oak (but not as bad as Detroit they say). Location was a disadvantage to me although everybody who was from Michigan told me it was the safe area outside of Detroit.
Not a big name university program but still very well known. (they treat their staff very, very well)
lack of minorities
Didn't rank. Didn't feel like I fit in and disliked location. Also didn't get best vibe from PD during discussion. Did not rank.
Community program.
