Applications
California Cedars-Sinai Med Ctr: | | | - Applied - Attended interview - Interview Experience:
| 2 extremely short interviews. | - Program Advantages:
| Awesome location in Beverly Hills. Residents still manage to live in affordable apartments within walking distance. | - Program Disadvantages:
| Only 3 res/year. No voice recognition software. |
| LAC-Harbor-UCLA Med Ctr: | | | - Applied - Attended interview - Program Advantages:
| California is its main draw. This attracts residents from some really great medical schools. | - Program Disadvantages:
| Not the greatest area in SoCal. Facilities not good. |
| Loma Linda U: | | | - Applied - Attended interview - Program Advantages:
| Mid-tier university program in California. | - Program Disadvantages:
| LL is an hour east of downtown LA. Most residents are self-selecting (went to LLU, are SDA), leading to a very specific environment you may or may not enjoy. |

| Santa Clara Valley Med Ctr: | | | - Applied
| Stanford U: | | | - Applied

| Really nice hospital, great facilities. | - Program Disadvantages:
| U California (Irvine): | | | - Applied
| U California (San Diego): | | | - Applied

| UCLA Med Ctr: | | | - Applied - Attended interview - Interview Experience: - Program Advantages:
| World-class hospital, top tier residency program. Best location out of all SoCal hospitals in my opinion. Friendly and down-to-earth PD. | - Program Disadvantages:
| Smelled the faintest whiff of arrogance from some attendings and residents. Not that you can blame them, but it's still there. |
|

Match Experience I was invited late to Mount Sinai so I thought I had a low chance of matching; I was pleasantly surprised.
Apparently Philadelphia is a difficult city to break into.
Got more mid-tier California invites than I expected, thanks to my California permanent address. For Brown and BIDMC I got off the waitlist last-minute, and was given two days' notice for an interview spot... couldn't make either one.
Third-year grades mattered way more than I thought they would. Get as many honors as possible.
Lastly, send letters of interest. I got a few late invites following an email to the PC. In the case of one prelim program, I was granted an interview one hour after I sent a letter of interest.
