Interviewed on a Saturday with ~50 other applicants. Introduction by PD and dept chair, followed by 3 interviews. Didn't get to see the day-to-day operations of the dept., or attend a conference.
- Program Advantages:
Brand new, $1 B health science campus. Location. PC is a gem here.
- Program Disadvantages:
Rotate through multiple sites. Losing affiliation with National Jewish (highly-rated pulmonary hospital). I personally didn't jive with the PD here.

- Program Advantages:
The environment--residents & faculty are all laid-back, intelligent people. Would be a great work environment. New cancer center with Rads facilities. Yale name.

- Program Advantages:
Large class size = easier call schedule. Outstanding non-imaging curriculum. PD is very resident-centered. High volume and diversity of studies.

- Program Advantages:
Very tight-knit program that creates a hospitable work environment. Residents are allowed to be autonomous very early in this program. NOLA! The food, people, and cultural experiences available in the big easy are second to none.

Harvard name. Smart, fun group of co-residents. Younger attendings who are focused on teaching. Very collegial environment.

Laid-back experience. Interviews with 4 faculty/residents, tour of department, and lunch with the residents.
- Program Advantages:
Harvard name and access. The 3/2 program at BWH is truly outstanding and provides residents with multiple world-class opportunities. Phenomenal residents.
- Program Disadvantages:
Boston: cost of living, transportation, cold weather, etc.

Long interview day--started early and lasted into the afternoon. Tour of Ann Arbor with other applicants. Post-interview 'coffee talk' with residents and attendings.
- Program Advantages:
Name and resources. Clinical teaching. Outstanding non-imaging curriculum. Many perks (residents at U of M are unionized). Great group of co-residents. PD one of the coolest people that I met on the trail.

Lots of interviews! Somewhere around 6-8, if I remember correctly. Tour of Mallinckrodt + St. Louis Childrens + BJH = lots of walking! Lunch with residents & noon conference.
- Program Advantages:
Wash U is an academic powerhouse. Research opportunities/resources are second to none here. Clinical volume is high and diversity of pathology is great.
- Program Disadvantages:
In terms of resident work, this is a more 'blue-collar' program. High volume and high expectations.

- Program Advantages:
Duke prides itself on resident education. Faculty members are all approachable and eager to teach residents. Duke pioneered the 3/2 program. Smart, interesting group of co-residents. Research opportunities abound.

- Program Advantages:

South Carolina

Very laid-back day. Intro by PD, several interviews, tour of facilities and fancy-schmansy lunch in the new cancer center.
- Program Advantages:
Strong neuro. SLC is a fun, safe place to ilve (esp. if you like to ski/snowboard!). Friendly and intelligent group of residents.
- Program Disadvantages:
Smaller class size = tougher call schedule.

Virginia

Very formal interview day; Intro by PD and department chair, 7-8 interviews with residents/faculty, research presentation, very nice luncheon, and (optional) tour of Harborview.
- Program Advantages:
Very academic program. High quality residents. High volume and diversity of cases (due to UW covering a huge geographic area). Great trauma rads department. Seattle is a fun (although gloomy) city.
- Program Disadvantages:
Very de-centralized. Multiple rotation sites spread across Seattle.

Match Experience
Submit your complete application as early as possible and try not to take rejections personally--each program seeks out a different type of applicant, and it isn't necessarily a fault that you aren't their desired type.
