Match Experience Apply broadly but don't go overboard. In my experience, most people applied to about 10 more places than whey needed to. Don't apply somewhere unless you would actually go there. Unless you just really don't know where you want to go, there isn't much point in attending more than 11-12 interviews. I know people who did upwards of 16-17 and it did nothing besides empty their wallets.
If you want to do private practice, don't just apply to top 10 programs. Most of these places don't prepare you as well for the real world as the best mid-tier programs will. Talk to practicing docs for info on what programs might be best for the type of career you want to pursue.
You will be screened by geography by programs outside the top tier names. I there is a place you really are interested in but it's not near where you are in school or grew up, call them. Otherwise they may think you are just bulking up your numbers and ignore your application.
