Interview Experiences
Very impressive tour by the program director, Dr. Mahr. 1 on 1 interviews.
Positive
everyone was super friendly, down to earth
Presentation followed by a walking tour (fast!!) and then 8ish 1on1 interviews, not intimidating.
Five 1-1 interviews, one tough interview
Program Advantages
Large faculty, excellent fellowship placements, extensive research opportunity, great teaching. Solid surgery numbers, GREAT institution!
Amazing well known faculty, Incredible resources, Excellent fellowships, Best perks of ANY program in the country, Faculty that care about resident education...overall, I'm super pleased to have matched here!!!
Great faculty. Great facilities. Great post residency possibilities
Mayo name
Mayo name, great exposure to various pathology, great surgical curriculum
Great reputation and sees a huge amount of pathology, although still well balanced with bread and butter things. international opportunities and great research. Best surgical curriculum I encountered. Hours not bad (8-5). Beautiful facilities.
Great program director (she seems like a great resident advocate), residents were very happy with their training
wonderful program, nice people Mayo name
Program Disadvantages
Must go to Minneapolis during 4th year for a VA experience, but that is only 90 min away, given condo for that
cold weather is about it
Minnesota is cold
Rochester, MN
I would die in Rochester MN
VA rotation in Minneapolis as PGY4. No real indigent population. Rochester is definitely a small town, and somewhat hard to get to.
Rochester, residents seemed overworked
Minnesota is rural
