Interview Experiences
Intro 7-8 faculty interviews Lunch Tour
Very relaxed interview day. Tour of eye center and VA. 5-6 interviews with key faculty. One of the nicest chairpeople I have met.
Too long. 'optional' lecture at 7 AM then sat from 8 until 9:30 to start very long tour. Interviews were not until 1 PM and was totally wiped. Interviews were friendly and low key however. Try and interview on days that offer morning interviews.
Had to take an eye exam for stereopsis, color and VA while there. Interviewed with a psychologist whose role in the program was somewhat unclear and was slightly weird.
Four 1-1 interviews
Optional morning lecture with tours to nationally ranked hospitals, 6 attending interviews around 15 min each (or longer if they were interested), nice lunch with residents and attendings around noon

Program Advantages
Eye Institute with very impressive facilities Lots of research Good fellowhips
Intimate program with strong clinical training. Milwaukee seemed like a great city.
Very solid chair (glaucoma) and retina faculty. Tons of research if desired but not forced. Very strong fellowship placement. Good VA. Residents seem happy. Decent #'s.
nothing that stood out
Great program, good numbers, good emphasis on resident training, decent facilities
Strong, very well known/connected faculty especially in plastics, 160-180 phacos, VA offers lasik cerfitication, femtosecond laser training, specialty lens placement, all new tech, AOIP, free-standing eye institute

Program Disadvantages
Milwaukee ? Resident Happiness
Small program. Great for some but not exactly what I was looking for.
VA is located a few miles away. 3 residents means call for 1st/2nd years. No residents clinic. 3rd year is ALL at VA.
Really cold in the winter.
Milwaukee
Cold winters (though the entire hospital system is connected by tunnels), q4 call, 3 residents split a work load meant for 4 residents
