  UCLA Med Ctr:
- Applied

Connecticut
  Yale-New Haven Med Ctr:
- Applied

- Interview Experience:
Excellent hotel and dinner. Residents loved the program. 2 interviews, both were relaxed.
- Program Advantages:
Very academic. Very good case mix, and the anesthesia department is very well respected.
- Program Disadvantages:
Only advanced positions right now, and the pre-lims at Yale are pretty rough. Pain rotation is weaker.

Florida
  Jackson Mem Hosp/Jackson:
- Applied
- Received interview

Georgia
  Emory U:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
2-day interview, but first day only for dinner and tour. Hotel was fantastic. 3 interviews, all very relaxed.
- Program Advantages:
Strong program overall with cardiac being its best rotation. Regional seemed great as well.
- Program Disadvantages:
ICU involvement isn't the best, but is improving. No moonlighting.

Illinois
McGaw Med Ctr of Northwestern U:
- Applied
  U Chicago:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Hotel not provided. Dinner was fantastic. 4 interviews, with one being more antagonistic.
- Program Advantages:
Great ICU and pain rotations. Residents seemed to easily get their numbers.
- Program Disadvantages:
The hospital is a dump. They are building a new one, but I was genuinely put off by the facilities and surrounding neighborhood.

Maine
  Maine Med Ctr:
- Applied
- Received interview

Maryland
  Johns Hopkins U:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Fantastic hotel and dinner. 4 relaxed interviews. Tour of the hospital, which is worth the interview alone.
- Program Advantages:
Strong across the board--world-class ICU and pain.
- Program Disadvantages:
Residents work hard at Hopkins. No moonlighting. Baltimore is rough around the edges. Limited (good) options for intern year. Didn't mesh with PD on interview day.

Massachusetts
  Beth Israel Deaconess:
- Applied
  Brigham and Women's Hosp:
- Applied
  Mass Gen Hosp:
- Applied

Minnesota
  Mayo (Rochester):
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Everyone was super friendly. Great hotel and dinner. 3 relaxed interviews and tour of the hospital.
- Program Advantages:
Excellent ICU, pain and cardiac. All numbers easily attained at rochester, but can rotate at other Mayo sites with condo and car provided. Allows moonlighting. Very family oriented.
- Program Disadvantages:
Rochester, MN can be cold, snowy and dreary, which is not for everyone. Residents mostly from midwest and in my opinion seemed quirky.

New Hampshire
  Dartmouth-Hitchcock Med Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very well-organized. Everyone was very friendly.
- Program Advantages:
Tailored to resident needs with lots of individual attention. Even though they are in the middle of nowhere, they get all the volume they need. Peds seemed stronger than other areas.
- Program Disadvantages:
Small class size (8) was not what I was looking for. PD seemed distant and uninterested in education/interviewing, which put me off.

New York
  Mount Sinai SOM:
- Applied
  New York Presb Hosp (Columbia):
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Hotel not provided. Dinner was in Manhattan and was excellent. Over 30 candidates and only two interviews--came off as the most impersonal of my interviews.
- Program Advantages:
Very strong ICU. CT strong as well.
- Program Disadvantages:
Pain experience appeared weaker than ohters. Regional is OK, but not spectacular. Residents appeared overworked and compensation is low for NYC with limited housing options.
New York
  New York Presb Hosp (Cornell):
- Applied
  New York U SOM:
- Applied
- Received interview
  U Rochester:
- Applied
- Received interview

North Carolina
  Duke U Hosp:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Excellent dinner with residents. Hotel was nice. Organized day with five separate interviews including PD and chair.
- Program Advantages:
Regional and cardiac are hands down a step above the rest.
- Program Disadvantages:
Limited moonlighting--only OB on the weekends and I believe for a small rate. Durham is smaller than I would prefer, and surprisingly more dangerous for such a small city.
  Wake Forest U SOM:
- Applied

Ohio
  Cleveland Clinic Found:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Great dinner with nice hotel. Huge group of applicants. More DO and foreign applicants than other programs.
- Program Advantages:
Cardiac and ICU.
- Program Disadvantages:
As of 2011 when I interviewed they were on a 3-year accreditation cycle for prior citations, the shortest I saw on the interview trail. That alone scared me off.
  CWRU/U Hosps of Cleveland:
- Applied
- Received interview

Oregon
  OHSU:
- Applied
- Received interview

Pennsylvania
  Drexel U COM/Hahnemann U Hosp:
- Applied
  Thomas Jefferson U:
- Applied
- Received interview
  U Pennsylvania:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Matched here (Ranked # 3)
- Interview Experience:
Excellent hotel and dinner. 5 interviews including the PD and chair. One interview was more challenging than others--discussed ethical issues, but not malignant at all.
- Program Advantages:
Very strong overall. Great cardiac, pain, peds and critical care. Regional seemed good as well, but not as strong as the other areas. Internal moonlighting (extended call) set at $100/hr as of 2011-2012.
- Program Disadvantages:
Residents here (and at Hopkins) seem to work harder than others, but this translates into great jobs and fellowships when your done.
  U Pittsburgh Med Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Hotel was nice, dinner was OK. 5 interviews that were all very relaxed. Longer interview day--didn't leave until 4:30PM despite interviewing in the AM.
- Program Advantages:
Great intern year. Regional, pain and ICU are very strong rotations. PD is very resident friendly.
- Program Disadvantages:
Peds and OB seemed comparatively weaker. Limited in-house moonlighting (mostly OB). Personally I'm not huge into Pittsburgh.

Tennessee
  Vanderbilt U:
- Applied

Vermont
  U Vermont:
- Applied
- Received interview

Virginia
  U Virginia:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
More casual. Hotel was very nice. Dinner at residents townhouse--didn't think that was the best idea. 5 interviews, all very relaxed.
- Program Advantages:
Regional and ICU are very strong. PD is an amazing resident advocate.
- Program Disadvantages:
Charlottesville isn't for everybody. OB rotation may need to be done elsewhere to supplement numbers. Limited moonlighting.

West Virginia
  West Virginia U:
- Applied
- Received interview

Match Experience
I applied early and to too many programs, but this let me trim down my interview number to what I desired (12). I did leave interviews at UCSF and OHSU on the table, which is regretful, but that was because I did some early interviews and wanted to limited travel.
