Interview Experiences Dinner was at a resident's tiny condo which was uncomfortable. People were super nice and happy. Got to sit in on grand rounds. Very well-organized. Lots of opportunity for one-on-one with residents. Very pleasant and laid-back. Tour of undergrad campus (with Starbucks) and hospital. Interviews very pleasant. Ranked #3. More casual. Hotel was very nice. Dinner at residents townhouse--didn't think that was the best idea. 5 interviews, all very relaxed. 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17
Program Advantages Location, Great Didactics, Categorical intern year, Case Variety, Chief Residents make schedule Awesome location! Residents are close-knit. Unique, collegial atmosphere. Very friendly group. Faculty have very impressive credentials but everyone I met was very down to earth. Regional and ICU are very strong. PD is an amazing resident advocate. Moonlighting ortho, ob, general cases $60/hr, Location- Charlottesville is awesome college town, lots of breweries, wineries, restaurants; beautiful, affordable, nice hiking/outdoor activities, Only 1 big hospital (no satellite campuses), True categorical Moonlighting ortho, ob, general cases $60/hr, Location- Charlottesville is awesome college town, lots of breweries, wineries, restaurants; beautiful, affordable, nice hiking/outdoor activities, Only 1 big hospital (no satellite campuses), True categorical 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17
Program Disadvantages Cost of Living, Less job options for significant other Just not what I was looking for. For such a small town, the cost of living in Charlottesville is high. Charlottesville isn't for everybody. OB rotation may need to be done elsewhere to supplement numbers. Limited moonlighting. Dont really care about research (even chair was like ya most ppl have 1 publication during residency if that), Only 4 (of 16) went on to do fellowships last year ,Trauma bay (dont see much per residents); also ED runs most airway stuff there
