Chill, but informative: day started at 1ish in the afternoon. Dr. Levi (PD) started with a pretty comprehensive presentation about the program, followed by 3 interviews (2-3 faculty/interview). Concludes with nice dinner/reception.
- Program Advantages:
Awesome surgical volume (97 %ile cats, 99 %ile plastics), well-respected faculty with huge names in glaucoma/oculoplastics/cornea, just hired big retina guy (Zhang), Savino from Wills (neuro), depth in all specialties. Beautiful facilities. NIH research $
- Program Disadvantages:
Busy first year call (q4ish), wet lab on the way, didactics/teaching are ok, surgery backloaded.

Interviews split into AM/PM. Lunch, followed by presentation by PD and chair, followed by 3 panel-style interviews.
- Program Advantages:
Strong surgically/clinically, pretty solid across all subspecialties, good fellowship match, Denver is a cool/young city
- Program Disadvantages:
Not much research, not really that impressed with residents' attitude about having matched there (seemed like it wasn't their top choice)

Strong and upbeat chairman, building program, rotation in caribbean seemed to be well-liked by the residents and not just to boost surgical numbers

Didn't like New Haven, unimpressive fellowship match, facilities a bit drab (although they built a new eye center), still young program

Stuart Fine stepping down, uncertainty of future, very low cataracts and surgical #s, although the PD emphasized that the numbers belie the fact that they are 'well taught' surgeries

Get involved in research, be involved in your community, show your commitment to the field, and be realistic when it comes to putting your rank list together. I matched well and am happy, but I heard many of my co-applicants went farther down their list than they expected.
