Applications
Indiana
  Indiana U SOM:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very odd and awkward interview weekend. Arrive Sunday for dinner, and interviews are actually conducted at dinner.
- Program Advantages:
Large referral center.
- Program Disadvantages:
Attitude is 'we do everything our own way', which was reflected in the way they conducted interviews; I wasn't a fan. Very few residents who did not go to school at IU. Most seem to want to stay in Indiana.

Kentucky
  U Kentucky COM:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very pleasantly surprised by this program. Everyone was very friendly and seemed happy.
- Program Advantages:
PD is very charismatic and invested in resident education. Residents seemed like a great group of people.
  U Louisville:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
My first interview, so the details are a little fuzzy... no major issues with the interview day though.
- Program Advantages:
Clinically oriented, residents all seemed to be able to get the jobs and fellowships they desired.
- Program Disadvantages:
Very little research. Downtown Louisville is uggggly. Hospital is mostly indigent care; must do cardiac rotation at outside hospital.

Michigan
  U Michigan:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Well-run and efficient. Interviews were much more laid back here than I expected. Ranked #2.
- Program Advantages:
Solid clinical training plus well-planned educational program. Lots of research.
- Program Disadvantages:
Ann Arbor seemed like it would be a great place to live, but got 10 inches of snow the weekend I was there. Ugh.

North Carolina
  U N. Carolina Hosps:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Matched here (Ranked # 1)
- Interview Experience:
Went without a hitch. Tour included parts of main campus as well as the hospital. The Carolina Inn was gorgeous.
- Program Advantages:
Strong clinical training, new chair working actively to improve program's reputation. Residents a close-knit group and seemed very happy.
  Wake Forest U SOM:
- Applied

Ohio
  Cleveland Clinic Found:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very large group. A lot of down time in between interviews.
- Program Advantages:
I'm sure you would get some great cases here.
- Program Disadvantages:
I preferred a site with a little lower volume. Residents and their education are not first priority here.
Ohio
  CWRU/U Hosps of Cleveland:

  Ohio St U Hosp:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Friendly group. All the residents I met seemed tired.
- Program Advantages:
Football tickets, strong clinical training.
- Program Disadvantages:
Seems like the whole department may be a little overextended. No chair currently.
  U Hosp/U Cincinnati COM:
- Rotated at this institution
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
No major issues. Interviewers friendly.
- Program Advantages:
Faculty strong, especially in critical care.
- Program Disadvantages:
Just not a good fit for me.

Pennsylvania
  U Pittsburgh Med Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Somewhat disorganized.
- Program Advantages:
Well known and well respected department.
- Program Disadvantages:
Volume too large, seemed like residents were almost disposable. Residents with some very odd personalities. I was disappointed by this program; thought I would rank it highly before the interview, but not a good fit for me.

Tennessee
  Vanderbilt U:
- Applied

Virginia
  U Virginia:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very pleasant and laid-back. Tour of undergrad campus (with Starbucks) and hospital. Interviews very pleasant. Ranked #3.

Unique, collegial atmosphere. Very friendly group. Faculty have very impressive credentials but everyone I met was very down to earth.

For such a small town, the cost of living in Charlottesville is high.
